Join the Choir – Let Your Voice and Music Be Heard

Are you one of those who love to sing with others, but somehow don’t ever get around to joining a choir?  Well, now is the time to give the choir a try.  Anyone who can carry a tune, even if it is with the help of listening to the person next to you, can feel great when his/her voice is blended with the voices of others.  Musical experience is not necessary. Many of our members do not read music, but rather rely on those who do and the rehearsal time to learn the music. The choir also welcomes those who can sing for just part of the year according to what their life-circumstances and schedule will allow. Some of our members have the demands of career or children and need to take time off or to lighten their choir commitment.

So raise your voice in thanks and praise to God and inspire our worshiping community that gathers here on weekends. There is a place for you, no matter what your age or ability.

If you are new to town or to the parish, these smaller “faith families” within our larger church family are excellent starting points. We are proud of our music program, and we are eager for you to join us!

Here are details on some of the musical opportunities awaiting you and your family.

St. Michael’s Adult Choir sings for the 10:30 a.m. Mass each Sunday, September through May, and rehearses at 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. This choir also sings for special liturgies such as the December Service of Lessons and Carols, Christmas and Holy Week Masses. All are welcome from 9th grade and up. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the church choir loft.

Children’s Choir is open to children grades Kindergarten and up and sings on the third Sunday of each month at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, September through May. Instrumentalists of all ages are also welcome. This Choir participates in the Christmas Lessons and Carols Service as well.

The Handbell Choir is open to adults and children in grades four and higher. Some knowledge of reading music is helpful and regular attendance is mandatory. This Choir plays for special liturgies throughout the year, such as Christmas and Easter. Rehearsals are Thursdays 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the church choir loft and rings at the 9 a.m. Mass on the second Sunday of the month, September through May. The choir performs for our Annual Service of Lessons and Carols in early December.  This choir is an especially great parent/child activity.

Resurrection Choir sings at all funeral and memorial Masses as well as special events, such as First Holy Communion and Noon Mass on Holy Days.

The Concert Committee plans the music programs for the year and arranges guest performances. This group hosts, serves, and coordinates these events.

Cantors are our singers who lead the congregation in the responses, singing of psalms and the hymns. Cantors are auditioned from the membership within the Adult Choir.
