LESSONS AND CAROLS: A FESTIVAL IN WORD AND SONG TO PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS

Saint Michael Church
This event is free and open to the public. Good will offerings accepted.

Each December, Saint Michael Church invites us to reflect and enjoy “Lessons and Carols,” a Christmas celebration modeled on the festival  performed annually since 1918 at the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge University, in England.  The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song.  In this service, we listen to Scripture lessons which recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson’s message and a brief prayer.

atlas-brass-quintetJoin us in the singing of the great hymns and carols of the Advent and Christmas Seasons from O Come, O Come Emmanuel to O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.  The program will feature the Atlas Brass Quintet, St. Michael’s Adult, Children and Hand Bell Choirs performing well-known Advent and Christmas choral works as well as a new work, “Christmas Choral Fanfare and Introit for Brass and Choir,” by the St. Michael Music Director, Dr. David Bower.

Join us and let the Lessons and Carols move us into an Advent and Christmas spirit of blessed peace, harmony and good will!

And after the Lessons and Carols, please join us as we share this Advent and Christmas spirit at a festive reception in the Parish Center’s Sarah Black Room.  The Sarah Black Room is accessible by the vestibule elevator and the Miln Street stairways to the Parish Center.
