Ashes were distributed at the 7:00 and 8:30 A.M., 12 Noon and 7:00 P.M. Masses, as well as at the Service of Ashes at 3:30 P.M. A Special Collection for the Poor was taken on Ash Wednesday.
LENTEN OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES
Some of these are listed below. A complete list of opportunities and resources will be included on our parish website.
An extra weekday Mass will be celebrated during the Holy Season of Lent at 7:00 P.M. We will need Eucharistic Ministers to serve at these Masses. Also, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Mondays following 7:00 P.M. Mass
Stations of the Cross will be prayed on the Fridays of Lent at 12:30 P.M. following the Noon Mass and at 7:30 P.M. following 7:00 P.M. Mass.
SUBSTITUTING THE APOSTLES' CREED FOR LENT
Liturgical guidelines permit the use of either the Nicene Creed or the Apostles' Creed on Sundays: the latter is especially appropriate during the Lenten and Easter Seasons, since it is the basis for the formula used in the Renewal of Baptismal Promises of Easter. Beginning next Sunday, therefore, we will be professing our faith in the words of the Apostles' Creed which is printed on the pew cards for the new translations of the texts and responses for Mass.
ST. MICHAEL'S LENTEN BOOK: WITH BURNING HEARTS
Copies of a short book by famed spiritual writer, the late Fr. Henri Nouwen, will be offered to our parishioners next weekend, February 17-18, the First Sunday of Lent. We hope that reading and reflecting on it will help increase our understanding of the meaning and purpose of celebrating Mass and living it in our daily lives.
We will offer frequent emails and discussion groups to pace the reading for those interested. Fr. Tom and Sister Loretta are selecting the materials and prayers for the emails. These will be sent only to people who register to receive them. Registration forms will be in the pews this weekend. You can also contact the Parish Center at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know you're interested in receiving the emails.

BELIEF IN GOD: THE HEART OF THE MATTER, but sometimes I have doubts
Let's face it: in our fast-paced, over sensory-stimulated world, it is, at times, hard to believe in, let alone, love an unseen, unheard God. Let's start Lent by talking about this and providing tips about how to fall in love with God, even in the face of doubts about his existence and nature.
Session includes a 30- minute Video by Bishop Robert Barron "Who Is God and Why Does It Matter?"
Tuesday, February 13
12:45 - 2:15 P.M. and 7:30 - 9:00 P.M.
Location: Parish Center, Pat O'Keefe Room
For each Lenten Tuesday we will have sessions on the material in With Burning Hearts by Henri Nouwen.
Fr. Tom is one of five presenters who will be providing three talks during the 2018 Lenten self-paced retreat offered at praymoreretreat.com consisting of sixteen 10-20 minute videos. You participate at your own pace, watching whenever you like.
Fr. Tom’s three videos focus on the readings of the last three weeks of Lent. The titles of his talks are: “Whoever serves me must follow me,” “For God so loved the world” and Palm Sunday.
